Rumor: New Macs could be announced at the very end of this month

While the mighty Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that there might not be any new Mac announcements in 2023, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on Monday reported that Apple is preparing to announce new Macs at the very end of October, with dates of October 30th or 31st in time.

Announcements are thought to include an update to the 24-inch iMac, and possibly multiple new MacBook Pro models as well.

Gurman has also stated that Apple is still planning a new higher-end iMac with a 32-inch display, but that isn’t scheduled to launch until late 2024 or 2025.

The current 24-inch iMac debuted in spring 2021, and offered a refreshed design as well as an M1 chip. The desktop is due for an update, and it’s unknown as to whether Apple will equip the new machine with its current M2 chip or use it to launch the M3 generation of chips.

Updates to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro so soon after the previous M2 generation launched in January would be atypical, but not completely unprecedented.

The new Macs, if announced, would arrive in time for the holidays, their announcement date arriving just before Apple’s quarterly earnings results on November 2nd.

New Macs would be the second product launch event for the company in October. Apple already announced a new USB-C model of Apple Pencil, which will ship in early November.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
