Some users experiencing conflicts between macOS Monterey 12.3 update and assorted game controllers

Some updates are rougher than others.

A number of users have reported issues with their game controllers following the macOS Monterey 12.3 update. The controllers range from Xbox, PlayStation, DualSense, to other controllers from other vendors.

There are multiple reports across the Apple Developer Forums, and also Reddit, with users recounting differing degrees of problems. One says that no Apple Arcade games work with the controllers, but others that do not rely on Apple’s GameController framework have at least limited functionality.

Per Reddit user culfoftheillinai:

“My DualSense controller does nothing when paired over Bluetooth after updating. The web APIs seem to work fine, my controller works fine when testing on https://gamepad-tester.com/ for instance. Looks like the lower level macOS APIs are broken.”

The doesn’t seem to be any consistency in the issues experienced, and some have suggested the source of the issue could be the Bluetooth connection to the Mac.

Apple has yet to comment publicly as to the issues reported.
