  • Apple releases Safari 11.0.2 for macOS El Capitan 10.11, macOS Sierra 11.2, looks to address Spectre issue with update

    As sick as everyone is of hearing about Spectre and Meltdown, Apple has just released an updated version of Safari that could help with the Spectre vulnerability.

    On Monday, the company released Safari 11.0.2, the new version of its web browser.

    The update, a 75.6 megabyte download, includes security improvements to mitigate the effects of the Spectre issue, which has become a prevalent concern in the security community and affects several years worth of computers and devices.

  • Apple releases iOS 11.0.2 update, focuses on crackling sound issue

    You can’t say Apple isn’t quick with its updates.

    On Tuesday, Apple released iOS 11.0.2. The update, a 277 megabyte download, offers the following fixes and changes for supported iOS devices:

    – Fixes an issue where crackling sounds may occur during calls for a small number of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus devices.

  • Updated HomePod firmware hints at facial recognition for next-gen iPhone

    It turns out that the newest HomePod firmware update dropped some hints as to what to expect with the next-gen iPhone.

    The firmware, which will run a version of iOS, corresponds to iOS 11.0.2.

    Developer Steven Troughton-Smith dug into the firmware and its BiometricKit framework that is currently home to Touch ID authentication, supporting claims that the iPhone 8 will rely at least in part on facial recognition.

    Within BiometricKit are new “FaceDetect” methods addressing such circumstances as faces being too close or too far from the camera, the presence of multiple faces, and more.

  • Apple releases iTunes 11.0.2 update

    Late Tuesday, Apple released version 11.0.2 of its iTunes multimedia/jukebox application. The new version, a 200.6 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and changes:

    – The update offers a Composer view for music, bug fixes, and enhanced responsiveness when accessing large playlists. It also offers a fix for an error that prevented purchases from showing up in the library.

    iTunes 11.0.2 requires an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later to install and run.

  • CrossOver updated to 11.0.2

    Sometimes it pays to take an extra day for bug testing, just to be sure.

    CrossOver, the popular emulation program from CodeWeavers, has been updated to version 11.0.2. The new version, which is available as a demo, offers the following fixes and changes:

    – This is a bug-fix release which resolves an issue whereby 11.0.1 would fail to register correctly for many users. If you have experienced an issue where CrossOver registration fails despite the fact that you believe your support contract is still enabled, this version may address your problem.

    CrossOver 11.0.2 retails for US$69.95 and requires Mac OS X 10.5 and or later and an Intel-based Mac to install and run.
