    Apple releases watchOS 8.1.1, chases after charging bug found in some Apple Watch Series 7 models

    Apple on Thursday released watchOS 8.1.1, a minor update that arrived three weeks after the release of watchOS 8.1 and adds the following fixes and changes:

    • Added SharePlay Fitness+ group workouts
    • addresses an issue that could cause ‌Apple Watch Series 7‌ models not to charge as expected for some users

    ‌‌watchOS ‌8.1.1 can be downloaded for free through the Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General > Software Update. To install the new software, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50 percent battery, it needs to be placed on a charger, and it needs to be in range of the ‌‌‌‌‌iPhone‌‌‌‌‌.

    Apple to release macOS Monterey, iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, watchOS 8.1, and tvOS 15.1 next week

    Apple on Tuesday announced that its macOS Monterey, iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, watchOS 8.1, and tvOS 15.1 will all available as free software updates next week. Apple revealed this timing in a press release for the third-generation AirPods.

  • Google releases PhotoScan app, brings scanning-level features to photography app

    This smacks of the spiffy.

    Google has just released PhotoScan, its new app for Android and iOS that allows you to scan your prints, eliminate any glare you’d get from taking a picture of them and organize them in digital form.

    The PhotoScan app allows you to take an initial photo of a photo, wherein it recognizes the four corners of the frame and displays circular overlays on each corner of the scanned image. You then point your phone camera at each circle, create a robust scan of the image, and PhotoScan gets to work from there.

  • Google Photos updated, now features Live Photos, improved backup support

    This is sort of nifty.

    The Google Photos app for iOS has been updated and now allows users to back up and view Live Photos taken with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. The latest version of the iOS app has finally received support for the format, nearly six months after Apple introduced Live Photos in the latest iPhone.

    Apple has found a new use for the Apple TV: Controlling every HomeKit-based device in your home.

    A recently published support page explains how to set up and use HomeKit and how the Apple TV is used as a hub for remotely controlling HomeKit accessories while on the go.

    The guide explains how HomeKit will work with any iOS device running iOS 8.1 or later, how to pair an accessory and how to find and enter a seven-digit setup code and enter it into the gear maker’s custom iOS app. Some apps should allow accessories to be grouped together into homes, rooms, or scenes.
