  • New Apple Campus 2 aerial drone footage released, shows progress on landscaping, solar panels, canopies

Construction continues on Apple’s new “Campus 2” headquarters, new footage shot by drone revealing signs of work on the canopies, walkways, and plants around the campus buildings despite recent poor weather.

The previous installment from drone pilot Matthew Roberts showed progress was being hampered by poor weather, with waterlogged grounds affecting landscaping efforts. Patches of water accumulated from the storms persist in the latest video, but the site as a whole seems to have drained sufficiently enough to dry off the majority of work areas.

Apple’s research and development facility now features paving in front of the building, offering a solid surface with which to load, unload and park nearby. Lighting poles have been installed around the building, illuminating the paved area as well as walkways to the sides and rear.

Apple’s Campus 2 project continues and a pair of killer new 4K drone videos show that the project itself is coming close to completion.

The videos, both shot on Christmas Day, show an empty work site for the holiday, but offer spiffy new clues such as the majority of solar installation complete and a lot of work continuing at the auditorium where future Apple events will be held while the second video takes us on a Christmas morning tour around Apple Campus 2 as it exists today.

  • New drone video footage shows significant progress on Apple Campus 2 site

    campus-2-july-2016-01

One month after his last drone flyover of Apple’s under construction Apple Campus 2 site, Matthew Roberts has sent over an update for July that gives an up-close look at progress in recent weeks.

The work continues on the Spaceship.

Per drone video, it looks like Apple is making progress towards completing its new campus building by the end of 2016.

The video shows significant progress on the solar panels and fuel cells and it’s also continued installing the massive glass panels and canopies— the world’s largest— that make up the interior and exterior of round ‘spaceship’ structure.

The campus is expected to generate around 75% of its own power using the solar panels and biogas fuel cells on-site, and it will get the rest of its renewable energy needed from third-party supplier First Solar.

  • Reception buildings, snack areas begin to surface at Campus 2 construction site

    campus2reception

Apple has begun building its reception buildings at its new Campus 2 headquarters.

While a fair number of images have surfaced from drone footage of the “ring” building, Apple is currently finishing up two reception buildings; one with glass walls topped by a simple roof and the other, seen above.

The two reception buildings will play a gatekeeper role for visitors; a couple of “outdoor food stations” inside the circular courtyard; and a decidedly modern maintenance shed. A city staff report includes some renderings of the proposed designs, which hadn’t been previously disclosed.
