    It’s out with the old, even if the old thing is a seriously nice piece of hardware.

    Apple has just officially discontinued the 2015 MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 2 and MagSafe 2 ports, meaning you’d better get your posterior in gear if you’d like one. The model has been replaced by the brand new Touch Bar MacBook Pro with up to 32 GB RAM.

  • Apple’s newest MacBook, MacBook Pro and iMacs now in stock at most U.S. Apple Store retail locations

    You can snag Apple’s newest MacBook, MacBook Pro, and iMac iron at almost all of the Apple Store locations within the United States.

    Apple began accepting online orders for the new MacBook, MacBook Pro, and iMac models on Monday, but delivery estimates currently range between June 12 and June 22 in the United States, so customers looking to purchase a new Mac earlier than next week may have better luck visiting an Apple Store.

  • Enthusiasts combine 2016 MacBook Pro with GTX 1080 Ti card through external enclosure, post impressive results

    Ok, this is pretty darn cool.

    A group of enthusiasts have found they were able to boost the video performance of the Radeon Pro 450 found on the 2016 15-inch MacBook Pro by nearly 400 percent via external GPU attachments.

    External GPU enthusiast site egpu.io has affixed a GTX 1080 Ti to an AKiTiO Note and Mantiz Venus enclosure. While the cards may be hamstrung slightly by the Thunderbolt 3 interface not being as fast as a 16x PCI-E slot, the results are nonetheless impressive.

    In a best-case scenario utilizing benchmarks, the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Radeon Pro 450 scores 5822 via the Luxmark 3.1 benchmarking software, with the Radeon Pro 460 scoring 6056.

  • LG uses third-party fixes to provide shielding, seems to have resolved interference issue in UltraFine 5K monitors

    It looks like the interference issue on the LG UltraFine 5K displays available through Apple have been resolved.

    Following continued testing, the new monitors are apparently very slightly sensitive to high-powered RF emissions like from a very close cell tower or military radar like any monitor, the interference problems are rectified, with older monitors retrofitted by authorized third parties even less sensitive to the same emissions.

    The new units, which have a slightly different shielding plate than the first run of fixed units. While the vast majority of users won’t see a problem, users within about 50 feet of an active cell tower, or a civil or military radar installation are experiencing the disconnect issues.

  • LG to offer fixes for UltraFine 5K monitors, will work to remove wireless router proximity issue

    Following the revelation that LG’s 5K UltraFine monitor, which rolled out in late 2016, experiences proximity problems when placed within 6.5 meters of a Wi-Fi router, the company has stated that it will be adding extra shielding to units manufactured in the future.

    The extra shielding will be present in units manufactured after February 2017.

    As for existing monitors, it appears those can also be retrofitted against signal interference, as well. The report didn’t mention how existing monitor owners can have their displays repaired if necessary. LG’s 5K monitor comes with a one year warranty that covers labor and parts, so it may be as simple as submitting a repair request on LG’s site.
