Apple may be releasing some new goodies come March.

A new rumor has it that Apple will host a March event, wherein the company will introduce a new 7.9-inch, 9.7-inch, 10.5-inch, and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The 10.5-inch model may not ship until May, while the other sizes are said to ship in March.

The report hails from Japanese web blog Mac Otakara, which has a pretty good track record. The report indicates that Apple plans to refresh the iPad mini 4 with a new 7.9-inch iPad Pro model, update its existing 9.7-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models, and introduce an all-new 10.5-inch iPad Pro, which is widely rumored to feature an edge-to-edge display without a Home button.

When Apple’s inventory runs low, a new model tends to be around the corner.

This seems to be the case with the iPad Air 2, wherein inventory levels have dropped as a trio of new models are rumored to soon launch, potentially suggesting the popular iPad Air 2 will be axed for a new model with faster processor.

Certain models of the table are not available from a number of authorized Apple resellers. At MacMall, neither the space gray nor silver variants of the 32-gigabyte Wi-Fi-only iPad Air 2 are in stock. And on the high end, B&H lists all LTE-equipped 128-gigabyte models as “no longer available,” suggesting inventory will not be replenished.

This could lead to something interesting.

Developer Steven Troughton-Smith has uncovered chunks of code inside the new iOS 10.3 beta that seems to support a floating one-handed keyboard.

According to Smith, the feature is supported in iPads that are 9.7-inches in size or smaller, meaning the largest 12.9-inch model is left out. Smith explains that the floating keyboard works a lot like picture-in-picture does for video. The keyboard can be moved around on-screen and is essentially the size of the keyboard you’d get on the iPhone.

Rumor: Apple could delay next-gen iPads until second half of 2017

The next-gen iPads might not launch “until the second half of 2017,” according to sources in the upstream supply chain. The new 9.7-inch iPad is predicted to enter mass production sometime in Q1 2017, while the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad models will begin production in Q2 of this year. All of the new iPads are described as still being in the “planning” phase.

While it’s generally expected for Apple to announce and launch new iPads in spring, the rumor has it that it could be longer. In December, “lower-than-expected” yield rates for the 10-nanometer manufacturing process was rumored to be a potential factor in a delayed launch for the new iPads.

The supply chain sources have identified the 10.5-inch iPad Pro as a contender to replace the price tier of the existing 9.7-inch iPad Pro, while the new 9.7-inch version will be introduced at an even lower cost to become an entry-level device, “mainly targeting the education sector.”

The rumor mill has kicked in and KGI Securities analyst Ming0Chi Kuo has released a note stated that Apple will launch three new iPad models in 2017. The new iPad models coming out this year include the second-generation update to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro that was first introduced in 2015, a brand-new 10- or 10.5-inch model with a narrow bezel design, as well as a budget-friendly 9.7-inch option.

The larger, high-end iPads will feature an A10X chip, while the lower-end iPad will arrive with an A9 processor. The A10X chip is a pumped-up version of the A10 chip currently powering the iPhone 7. The A10X will be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and the A9 chip, which powers the iPhone 6s, will continue to be made by Samsung.

Some new Apple hardware is coming your way.

Apple just sent out the journalist invitations to a product unveiling at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino. The event will take place next Thursday, October 27, at 10 a.m. Pacific time.

As usual, the invitation doesn’t specify what new hardware will be announced. Instead, it merely offers a “Hello again” tagline.

The going rumor is on updated Macs, since nothing but the 12-inch MacBook has been updated this year. The big rumor points to a next-gen MacBook Pro notebook, which is expected to include a set of touch-sensitive OLED keys to replace the function row along the top of the keyboard, allowing those keys to change based on the application you’re using.
