Rumor: Apple to announce AirTags, other new products at media event on March 23rd

The rumor mill currently has it that Apple’s long-awaited AirTags will be revealed during a media event scheduled for March 23rd.

The event is slated for one week later than previously reported, and hails from @duanrui1205, a previously-reliable source who sent out word about the new date:

This report contains no information about what Apple will launch. However, based on previous leaks and supply chain claims, it’s likely that the event will see the launch of “AirTags.”

Apple’s AirTags represent a highly anticipated product that could serve as tracking devices. Details of the units have appeared in iOS betas, and will let users track their devices when lost, and are predicted to cost between $25 and $35 each.

It’s also likely that there will be an update to the iPad Pro at a March event. Previous reports have indicated that both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models will be updated, and they may be thicker to support a new backlighting system. This would also mark the first time that an iPad Pro had mini-LED backlighting incorporated into the design.

Other rumored products that could be in the launch include an iPad mini refresh, as the last update for the tablet was in March 2019.

Apple is believed to have new Apple Silicon iMacs in the works, and if one is to be released in March, it is most likely to be the recently-rumored 24-inch iMac. This is expected to have a 4K Retina display, and to feature a new design with reduced bezels.

Apple is also rumored to be on the verge of announced a new generation of AirPods, which are thought to be the “AirPods 3.”

Finally, it’s thought that Apple could possibly update the Apple TV in the near future.

There are no new details about what form the event may take, but it is most likely to be another virtual one filmed at Apple Park.

Tweeter DuanRui was previously correct when first to reveal the name of the iPhone 12 mini. DuanRui was also first to show teardown images of the iPhone 12.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
