Rumor: iPhone 14 could offer 30W charging support for some models

This could come in handy.

A new leak provided by Twitter user DuanRui has indicated that the upcoming iPhone 14 lineup could gain 30W fast charging, a significant boost over the 20W rating used for the iPhone 13 models.

The rumors center around reports of an unnamed charger brand that is allegedly sending out 30W iPhone 14 adapters to the media for early access and review.

While the leak is a bit ethereal, it’s not completely unlikely. The iPhone 13 Pro Max was able to support 27W charging temporarily in a test, suggesting that 30W support is possible.

Currently, an iPhone 8 or newer plugged into an 18W PD USB-C wall adapter will charge 50 percent of its battery in 30 minutes. The iPhone 12 and newer support 20W fast charging.

A 30W charger would theoretically cut this time even further, even if it did generate significantly more heat, which could lead to less efficiency, and faster battery degradation.

It’s unknown if the 3oW charging would be limited to iPhone 14 Pro models or be available to all iPhone 14 models. Limitations could also be placed based on the battery size, so only “max” models could get the feature.

Apple recently released two 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter that can be used to charge both a MacBook Air and iPhone simultaneously.

The iPhone 14 lineup is expected to be announced during an Apple event on September 7.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
